Trailering More Hobbit

“The dwarves are determined to reclaim their homeland,” declares Gandalf at the start of the new trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Dec. 14). And what a lush homeland Erebor is.  But this prequel adventure involving the unassuming Bilbo (Martin Freeman) turns dark soon enough, of course, as Bilbo and the 13 dwarves enter the wild and encounter the Goblins, Orcs, Wargs, and Sorcerers.

But it’s Bilbo’s first meeting with Gollum over his “precious” ring that shapes his life. The trailer not only makes the story looking dramatically inviting but the look is sumptuous; the VFX by Weta Digital is very impressive (particularly the animated facial performance of Andy Serkis’ Gollum, whose eyes and skin are more believable and emotionally hypnotic). I can’t wait to see this in IMAX, 3-D, and 48 fps.

Meanwhile, there are four additional endings to the new trailer on www.thehobbit.com that you can send friends to view.
