Trailering The Hateful Eight from Tarantino

Watch the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s ┬áRoadshow-like 70mm Civil War western opening Christmas Day.

It’s pure Tarantino: a blizzard sends a group of stagecoach travelers off course, who become trapped together in a violent, deadly predicament. The ensemble stars Channing Tatum, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Demian Bechir, and Walton Goggins.

Three-time Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson wanted something radically different and Panavision dusted off some old Camera 65 lenses that were a part of the MGM 65 and Ultra Panavision systems. Thus, this will be the first Ultra Panavision release since Khartoum in 1966. As some have noted, it’ll be like watching an old film shot with modern stocks in terms of contrast, color, depth of field, lens coatings, and anamorphic lens flairs. Plus a soft, artistic look in out of focus shots that you just don’t get anymore.
