Trailering The Book of Life

Watch the exciting first trailer for The Book of Life (Fox, Oct. 17) and get a glimpse of why Reel FX comes of age with this passion project by director Jorge Gutierrez.

Guitierrez has been nurturing his personal take on The Day of the Dead festival for more than a decade, and teaming up with producer Guillermo del Toro finally brought it to the big screen at Reel FX (Free Birds).

Family expectations come into conflict with heart’s desire for Manolo (Diego Luna), who would rather play guitar than be a bullfighter like his father (Hector Elizondo). Meanwhile, a rivalry with best friend Joaquin (Channing Tatum)  to marry Maria (Zoe Saldana) complicates matters.

This fantastical journey takes Manolo from the Land of the Living to the Land of the Remembered to the Land of the Forgotten and the design is culled from the director’s love of hand-crafted artworks. Reel FX has really stepped up its animation and rendering capabilities and I’m looking forward to the finished results.

The other producers are Aaron Berger, Brad Booker, and  Carina Schulze. And the rest of the voice cast includes Ice Cube, Ron Perlman, Christina Applegate, Kate del Castillo, Cheech Marin, Placido Domingo, Ana de la Reguera, Eugenio Derbez, Gabriel Iglesias, Ricardo “El Mandril” Sanchez, and Danny Trejo.
