Trailering More of The Revenant

Watch more of Leonardo DiCaprio going after Tom Hardy in Best Picture contender The Revenant, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning Birdman.

No wonder Fox sees big Oscar potential from The Revenant and is positioning the 19th century wilderness thriller of revenge on Christmas Day. It reunites Iñárritu with two-time Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel (“Chivo”) Lubezki, who shot in the dead of Alberta winter for several months in natural light and with Steadicam partially with the new Alexa 65 (the first of its digital kind with a much larger 65mm equivalent sensor).

The results are incredibly immersive: Lubezki gets extremely close to the actors with wide lenses and a visceral ferocity very different from Birdman and Gravity. This amounts to a unique survival trilogy. Could he win his third Oscar in a row?

Meanwhile, production designer Jack Fisk does more legendary work and ILM  provides supporting VFX.

After being mauled by a bear and left for dead by his hunting team, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) stalks each member, including confidant John Fitzgerald (Hardy). The natural beauty grows bitter cold as revenge consumes DiCaprio, who has never looked this raw.
