Just as the overwhelmingly positive UK reviews are in for SPECTRE (opening next week in the UK and Nov. 6 stateside), we have the music vlog devoted to Sam Smith’s record-breaking main title theme, “Writing’s On the Wall.”
Despite some sniping from hard-core Bond fans, Smith’s melancholy song has struck a chord with a larger demographic. Indeed, he said he was inspired by Sam Mendes’ directive to write the best love song he could come up with.
Meanwhile, composer Thomas Newman discussed his second Bond score with Classic FM: “There’s much ethnic percussion but I think in a Bond movie you associate that more with locale than with the psychology of the music being made.”
