Suddenly animation hybrids are hot and hand-drawn is retro with Disney’s Paperman short this year and DreamWorks Animation’s Me and My Shadow feature coming next year (Nov. 8, 2013) . Take a look at the poster. There’s a marvelous co-mingling of the human and shadow worlds, in which the latter is 2D.
Directed by How to Train Your Dragon’s head of story Alessandro Carloni, Me and My Shadow concerns Shadow Stan (Bill Hader), who dreams of excitement but is tethered to timid Stanley Grubb (Josh Gadd). However, when danger strikes the secret shadow world, Stan is forced to reveal himself to Stanley and solve a crime that threatens both their worlds in this reverse doppelganger tale. Recalls Who Framed Roger Rabbit, doesn’t it? DreamWorks chief creative officer Bill Damaschke promises a unique approach to the hand-drawn animation.
