Oscar Contenders to Highlight View Conference

Presentations centered on Oscar-contending animation and VFX movies will highlight the View 2014 conference in Turin, Italy (Oct. 14-18). Keynoting the conference are Tom McGrath from DreamWorks Animation (The Penguins of Madagascar), Pixar-co-founder Alvy Ray Smith, and Glen Keane (the Duet short).

Disney lighting supervisor Alessandro Jacomini  will give a world premiere talk on Big Hero 6 ; production designer Nelson Lowry from Laika will introduce the stop-motion world of The Boxtrolls; DreamWorks co-head of story Alessandro Carloni will present How to Train Your Dragon 2; and Animal Logic’s animation supervisor Rob Coleman will discuss The Lego Movie.

Other presentations include: Disney’s Patrick Osborne will present his new Feast short (playing with Big Hero 6); production designer Noëlle Triaureau and art director Marcelo Vignali will provide an early look at the 2016 Smurfs movie from Sony Pictures Animation; co-director Kris Pearn will show off SPA’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2;  and Lucia Modesto, supervising character TD at PDI/DreamWorks, will discuss Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

For VFX, Keith Miller, VFX supervisor from Weta Digital, will present Dawn of the Planet of the Apes; ILM VFX supervisor Scott Farrar will discuss Tranformers: Age of Extinction; Framestore VFX supervisor Kyle McCulloch will examine Guardians of the Galaxy; ILM’s animation supervisor will explore the new facial capture system for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; and VFX supervisor Stefen Fangmeier and Merzin Tavaria, chief creative director at Prime Focus World, will explain Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

In addition, speakers from the worlds of game development,  virtual reality, motion capture, and medicine include: Parag Havaldar, R & D Lead at Blizzard Ent. David Putrino from Not Impossible Labs at Weill-Cornell Medical College. Flávio Andaló and Milton Luiz Horn Vieira from the DesignLab at UFSC. Elisa Di Lorenzo from Untold Games. Pierre-Alain Gagne from DOWiNO. Philip Stevju Løken from Placebo Effects.  Kim Baumann Larsen from Digital Storytelling.
