London Calling: Skyfall Vlog

Skyfall director Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, and Judi Dench discuss shooting extensively in London for the first time in the latest vlog, taking advantage of new iconography by closing down Whitehall and the modern Underground.

“We had to shoot in the more expected areas, but I hope in unexpected ways and unexpected angles,” Londoner Mendes affirms. “Sam and I wanted to make it British,” Craig adds. “It’s just about basing Bond in Britain, and it’s very exciting just to get out onto the streets and show London for what it is.” Dennis Gassner’s production design captures the modern setting while using it to evoke the iconic stature of Craig’s Bond; and Roger Deakins’ naturalistic lighting conveys the modern/classical dialectic.
