It turns out that Laika (ParaNorman) has passed on making Henry Selick’s stop-motion feature that was shut down by Disney. Last week I disclosed at TOH/Indiewire that the director was in discussions with his former studio, where he made the hit, Coraline.
I’m told that the once-titled ShadeMaker is the story of two brothers, and that it takes Selick’s special brand of surrealism in a new direction. Fingers crossed that someone recognizes the painstaking artistry that Selick brings to these projects and comes through with some funding.
