Disney Leads 40th Annie Noms

Nominations for the 40th Annie Awards were announced Monday by ASIFA-Hollywood, dominated by Disney’s three Best Animated Feature nods (Pixar’s Brave, Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, and Wreck-It Ralph), while wracking up a studio record 25 noms overall. In fact, it was a great week for Disney, with Frankenweenie awarded Best Animated Film of 2012 by The New York Film Critics Circle, and Wreck-It Ralph earning Best Animated Feature by the National Board of Review.

The other Annie noms for Best Animated Feature went to Hotel Transylvania (Sony Pictures Animation Studios), ParaNorman (Focus Features), Rise of the Guardians (DreamWorks Animation), The Pirates! Band of Misfits (Aardman Animations), and The Rabbi’s Cat (GKIDS). Sony, too, scored a studio record 16 noms between SPA, Imageworks, and Aardman.

In addition, three Winsor McCay recipients have been selected by the ASIFA-Hollywood board of directors — Oscar Grillo, Terry Gilliam and Mark Henn — for their career contributions to the art of animation; June Foray Award — Disney’s veteran publicist Howard Green for his significant and benevolent or charitable impact on the art and industry of animation; and Ub Iwerks –- Toon Boom Animation/Toon Boom Animation Pipeline for technical advancements that make a significant impact on the art or industry of animation.

Best Director: Genndy Tartakovsky (Hotel Transylvania), Joann Sfar and Antoine Delesvaux (The Rabbi’s Cat), Remi Bezancon and Jean-Christopher Lie (Zarafa), Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph), Sam Fell and Chris Butler (ParaNorman).
