DD Recreates Elvis; Recruits Dowdeswell

Digital Domain Media Group and CORE Media will be be making a virtual Elvis Presley for holographic stage tours along with other avatars or movies, TV, and commercials, in a step forward from what it has already accomplished with Brad Pitt (Benjamin Button) and Jeff Bridges (Tron: Legacy).

“Elvis is the most iconic, most recognized performer on the planet, and we are thrilled to have been chosen to bring new performances and original shows where fans can have their own, new experiences of Elvis,” said Digital Domain Media Group Chairman and CEO John Textor. “In addition to being a dream project on the creative side, this agreement enables us to participate in the success of any number of potential virtual Elvis appearances.”

DD recently created the virtual Tupac Shakur for Dr. Dre’s recent show at the Coachella Valley Music Festival.

Meanwhile, Jason Dowdeswell has left Image Engine to head production for DD’s Vancouver studio. The 20-year industry veteran will oversee operations for all of the company’s local productions, talent and teams, as well as collaborations with Digital Domain’s Venice, California, San Francisco, Florida, London and Mumbai visual effects teams.
