Clipping the Immersive Gravity Experience

With Gravity opening next week and getting rave reviews and Oscar buzz, here’s an enticing featurette with Alfonso Cuaron, Sandra Bullock, and others about the immersive experience.

It’s pure cinema, as Hitchcock said, very primal with Bullock tethered to George Clooney as they’re both lost in space, and then struggling alone to survive in some IMAX documentary gone wrong, and having to confront her demons through a metaphoric rebirth.

Technologically, Gravity advances virtual production through a clever reverse engineering approach by Framestore of placing the actors inside the animation. It involved prevising the entire movie and the construction of the Light Box with LED lighting and special wiring with robotic-controlled cameras to simulate zero-gravity.
