While Kenneth Branagh is currently making Cinderella in England (March 2015), Rob Marshall has started production this week in the UK on Stephen Sondheim’s much darker Into the Woods musical, slated for a Christmas 2014 release.

Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland (Dec. 12, 2014) officially started shooting in Vancouver, still veiled in secrecy. About all we know for sure is that it stars George Clooney as a disillusioned genius inventor, who teams with a prodigious teen Britt Robertson (Under the Dome) on a miraculous journey through time and space. Nolan Starts Shooting Interstellar

In taking over Interstellar from Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan will now explore outer space after reinventing The Dark Knight and playing mind games with Inception. He’s started shooting for Paramount domestically and Warner Bros. internationally (mixing 35mm anamorphic with IMAX film photography), headed for a Nov. 7, 2014 release. Read more

I recently spoke with the three Bs of below-the-line craft on the acclaimed, $100 million House of Cards, which is in pre-production on its second season for Netflix: cinematographer Eigil Bryld (You Don’t Know Jack), costume designer Tom Broecker (Saturday Night Live), and composer Jeff Beal (Blackfish), whose two-disc soundtrack is available on Varese Sarabande. They all attest to the fact that TV bended to David Fincher (the series’ exec producer who directed the first two episodes) and not the other way around. Read more
