Shane Black to Tackle Doc Savage
After tapping into Tony Stark’s dark side with the blockbuster hit, Iron Man 3, director Shane Black will now try to re-energize Doc Savage as a new franchise for Sony Pictures. The pulp superhero has been off the radar for quite some time (the last movie was the uneventful Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze in ’75 with Ron Ely). So you can bet he’ll get Black’s noirish treatment along with gallows humor — an adult action/adventure, a postmodern Indiana Jones. But who will play him? Read more

Stop-motion and VFX pioneer Ray Harryhausen passed away Tuesday in London at the age of 92, according to an announcement on the official Facebook page of The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation. The multi-award winner best-known for The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and Clash of the Titans, became a cultural legend and an inspiration to every filmmaker that has worked in animation and live-action VFX movies for the last half century, (including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Tim Burton, Phil Tippett, Nick Park, and John Lasseter). South-Africa-based Triggerfish Animation has come of age with its first two features, Adventures in Zambezia, about a lavish city of birds, currently available on Blu-ray and DVD (Sony Home Ent.), and Khumba, a zebra in search of its identity, which premieres at Cannes this month.
